Evolution
Living things change slowly over millions of years. In this lesson you will learn what evolution is, how natural selection works, and how fossils show us the history of life.
1 · What is evolution?
Evolution is the slow change in living things over many generations. Over millions of years, species change to fit their environment better.
2 · Natural selection
天擇
Charles Darwin explained evolution with natural selection. Living things have small differences called variation. Those best suited to survive and reproduce pass their traits to their young. This is called "survival of the fittest".
3 · Evidence: fossils
Fossils are the remains of ancient living things preserved in rocks. They show us how living things have changed over millions of years. Older fossils are found in deeper rock layers.
4 · Extinction
When a species cannot adapt to changes in its environment, it may die out. This is called extinction. The dinosaurs became extinct about 65 million years ago.
