A fraction is a part of a whole. In this lesson you will learn what fractions are, what the numerator and denominator mean, and how to compare fractions.

分數是整體的一部分。在這一課，你會學習甚麼是分數、分子和分母代表甚麼，以及怎樣比較分數。

1 · What is a fraction?

甚麼是分數？

One half and one quarter of a pizza.

薄餅的二分之一和四分之一。

A fraction is a part of a whole. If you cut a pizza into 4 equal slices and take 1, you have 1 out of 4, written as 1/4. If you cut it into 2 and take 1, you have 1/2.

分數是整體的一部分。把薄餅切成 4 等份，取 1 份，就是 4 份中的 1 份，寫作四分之一。如果切成 2 份取 1 份，就是二分之一。

2 · Numerator and denominator

分子和分母

3/4: 3 parts out of 4 equal parts.

3/4：4 等份中的 3 份。

In the fraction 3/4, the denominator (4) tells you how many equal parts the whole is divided into. The numerator (3) tells you how many parts you have.

在分數 3/4 中，分母（4）告訴你整體分成多少等份，分子（3）告訴你有多少份。

3 · Equivalent fractions

等值分數

Equivalent fractions are different fractions that show the same amount. 1/2 is the same as 2/4 and 4/8. Multiply or divide the top and bottom by the same number.

等值分數是表示相同數量的不同分數。1/2 等於 2/4，也等於 4/8。把分子和分母同時乘或除以同一個數。

1/2 = 2/4 = 4/8二分之一等於四分之二等於八分之四。

4 · Comparing fractions

比較分數

To compare fractions, make the denominators the same. 1/2 is bigger than 1/4, because 1/2 = 2/4 and 2/4 is more than 1/4.

要比較分數，先把分母變成一樣。1/2 比 1/4 大，因為 1/2 = 2/4，而 2/4 比 1/4 多。

Same denominator? Then the bigger numerator is the bigger fraction.

分母相同時，分子較大的分數就較大。
